จอร์จ ฟินเลย์สัน (อังกฤษ: George Finlayson, 1790–1823) เป็นนักธรรมชาติวิทยาและนักเดินทางชาวสกอตแลนด์ เขาได้รับการยกย่องว่าเป็นนักธรรมชาติวิทยาที่เก่งที่สุดคนหนึ่งในยุคของเขา และเขามีชื่อเสียงจากการศึกษาเชิงบุกเบิกเกี่ยวกับพืช สัตว์ และผู้คนทางภาคใต้ของประเทศไทยและคาบสมุทรมลายู[1]
ฟินเลย์สันเกิดที่เมืองเธอร์โซในปี ค.ศ. 1790 เขาเป็นเสมียนของดร.ซอมเมอร์วิลล์ หัวหน้าเจ้าหน้าที่การแพทย์ของกองทัพในสกอตแลนด์[2] และต่อมาเป็นเสมียนของดร. ฟาร์เรล หัวหน้าเจ้าหน้าที่การแพทย์ของกองทัพในซีลอน จากนั้นเขาย้ายไปที่เบงกอลและเข้าประจำการใน กองทหารม้าเบาที่ 8 ในตำแหน่งผู้ช่วยศัลยแพทย์ในปี ค.ศ. 1819 ในปี ค.ศ. 1821 และ 1822 เขาได้ร่วมคณะผู้แทนการค้าของจอห์น ครอว์เฟิร์ดไปยังสยาม (ปัจจุบันคือประเทศไทย) และโคชินไชนา (ปัจจุบันคือเวียดนาม) ในฐานะนักธรรมชาติวิทยา[3] และเดินทางกลับมาพร้อมกับคณะผู้แทนการค้าดังกล่าวไปยังโกลกาตาในปี ค.ศ. 1823 ถึงเวลานี้สุขภาพของเขาแย่ลงไปมากแล้ว เขาเสียชีวิตระหว่างเดินทางจากเบงกอลไปยังสกอตแลนด์ในเดือนสิงหาคม ค.ศ. 1823[4]

นกปรอดหัวลาย (Pycnonotus finlaysoni) และกระรอกฟินเลย์สัน (Callosciurus finlaysonii) ได้รับการตั้งชื่อเพื่อเป็นเกียรติแก่ฟินเลย์สัน[7]
